ShaftsTransmission shafts
Heavy-Duty Involute Spline Transmission Shaft
Forged and quenched-tempered shaft with an involute external spline at mid-body for high-torque transmission, plus ground journal ends and radial through holes for locking or lifting.

Spline Joint and Torque Transfer
The working section is a high-precision involute external spline machined on the mid-body of the shaft. Matched with an internal spline component, it spreads circumferential load evenly and holds alignment far tighter than a keyed connection, so a larger torque can be carried through the same envelope.
The spline also allows a limited amount of axial sliding, which suits drive layouts that need axial displacement or a defined assembly clearance between mating parts.
Journals, Holes and Assembly
Both ends are ground journal sections that serve as bearing fits, supporting and locating the shaft in rotation. A radial through hole at each end takes a locking pin or bolt to fix the axial position of mounted parts, or a lifting eye and rigging for handling during heavy assembly work.
Machining Capability
Shafts are machined from forged blanks, with turning, spline cutting, grinding and hole drilling carried out in house. The shop handles shafts up to 10 000 mm in length including clamping, up to Ø1 500 mm in diameter and up to 8 t per piece.
Journal tolerances are held to h6 / IT7 with surface roughness down to Ra 0.8 and radial runout within 0.02 mm. Keyways, splines, threads and end-face flange holes can all be included, and quenching and tempering or high-frequency hardening is available up to 10 000 mm of shaft length. Typical lead time is 8–12 weeks.
Quality Control
Dimensions, journal tolerance and radial runout are checked during machining and again on the finished part, and hardness is verified after heat treatment. Material certificates are issued with each batch, and additional non-destructive examination can be arranged when the drawing calls for it.
Spline parameters, shaft diameter, overall length and hole positions are confirmed against the drawing or a physical sample before production, so the delivered shaft matches the mating internal spline and bearing seats.
Customization
Spline module, tooth count, pressure angle and accuracy grade, journal diameters, overall length and hole placement are all made to order. Material grade and heat treatment cycle are set per application, with 42CrMo and 40Cr as the common choices for heavy-duty and shock-loaded service.

Common questions
- Can you machine this part to my drawing?
- Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
- How are the material and heat treatment decided?
- They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
- What lead time and inspection come with the part?
- Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
- How is the part packed for export?
- Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.
Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
