Gears & PinionsSpur gears

Large Spur Gear

Large spur gears machined to drawing in 42CrMo or 45# steel, body quenched and tempered, tooth surfaces induction hardened, module M0.5–M30, max outer diameter Ø2 000 mm.

Large spur gear standing upright, spur tooth profile, central bore, machining marks visible on tooth surfaces.

Tooth Profile Machining

These gears use 42CrMo or 45# steel bar stock, forgings or rolled rings as blanks; spur teeth are cut by hobbing and shaping, module M0.5–M30, max outer diameter Ø2 000 mm. For larger parts, the gear machining capacity limit is max outer diameter Ø10 000 mm and max module M60.

When size permits, the bore and keyway are completed in a single setup, so the gear fits onto the shaft properly and tooth contact patterns remain uniform under load.

Heat Treatment and Tooth Surface Hardness

Gear blanks are quenched and tempered before tooth cutting; after cutting, the tooth surfaces are induction hardened. Hardening changes the bore and pitch circle dimensions, so post-treatment re-inspection and correction to drawing requirements are required.

Inspection and Lead Time

Pitch deviation, runout and hardness are inspected in-house; ultrasonic testing is performed as required, and inspection records are delivered with the parts.

Typical lead time for gear parts is within 90 days, depending on size, material, and whether the blank is a casting, forging or rolled ring.

Common questions

Can you machine this part to my drawing?
Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
How are the material and heat treatment decided?
They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
What lead time and inspection come with the part?
Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
How is the part packed for export?
Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.

Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
