Horizontal Ball Mill Shell Assembly
Heavy horizontal steel shell assembly with a black riding ring for rotary support, bolted inspection manholes and replaceable wear liners inside. Built for mineral, cement and metallurgical grinding.

Structure and build
The shell is a heavy welded steel cylinder with an anti-corrosion coating on the outside. Square bolted manholes on the side let maintenance crews enter the drum while the mill is stopped, to replace wear liners or top up the grinding media.
The black ring around the shell is the riding ring. It sits on fixed trunnion roller assemblies, carrying the full weight of the shell, the charge and the grinding media, and acts as the track for slow, steady rotation.
Working principle and duty
Inside, the drum is lined with high-manganese steel or rubber wear plates and charged with steel balls or rods. The drive turns the shell at low speed, the charge is lifted and dropped, and the material is ground to the target size by impact and attrition.
Typical duty covers iron and non-ferrous ore grinding in mining, raw meal, clinker and limestone grinding in cement plants, and powder preparation in chemical, refractory and power industries, in heavy-load continuous operation.
Fabrication and customization
Shell rolling, welding, assembly, coating and liner fitting are done in our own workshop on welding roller beds; welds, dimensions and geometry are checked against the drawing, with NDT on request.
Sub-type (ball, rod or tube mill), diameter, length, volume and drive power are confirmed from the actual duty data before quoting; manhole number and position, liner material and riding ring layout can be adapted to the customer's drawing.

Common questions
- Can you machine this part to my drawing?
- Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
- How are the material and heat treatment decided?
- They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
- What lead time and inspection come with the part?
- Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
- How is the part packed for export?
- Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.
Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
