Custom Forged Steel Gear Shafts – Bevel & Helical
Made-to-order forged steel gear shafts in 4140, 4340 or 8620 alloy steel, with spur, helical or bevel teeth and carburizing, nitriding or quenching and tempering.

Gear Cutting and Shaft Turning on One Part
A gear shaft is cut from a single forged blank, so the tooth profile and the bearing journals keep their relative position through turning, gear cutting and grinding. That matters most on bevel and helical teeth, where a shift in the journal centre shows up directly as noise and uneven contact.
Capacity on this line reaches a maximum outside diameter of Ø10 000 mm and a maximum module of M60, with straight, helical, herringbone and internal tooth forms. Blanks can be supplied as castings, forgings or rolled rings, depending on the size and the load case.
Heat Treatment and Tooth Surface Integrity
Teeth are carburized, nitrided or quenched and tempered according to the drawing, with a maximum hardening diameter of Ø10 000 mm. Case depth and core hardness are agreed before the first part is cut, so the finished shaft matches the duty cycle rather than a stock specification.
Pitch, runout, hardness and ultrasonic testing are carried out in house. Inspection records follow the parts through the batch, which is what makes it possible to trace a single shaft back to its blank and its heat-treatment charge.
Custom Scope and Service Conditions
We work from your drawing or from a sample: material selection, gear geometry, shaft dimensions, surface treatments and special features such as keyways, splines, threads and flange holes. Reverse engineering is available when only a worn part exists.
Typical applications are aerospace, automotive transmissions and differentials, construction and mining drives, oil and gas pumps, wind turbine gearboxes and robotic axes. Standard lead time is within 90 days; the finished shafts are covered by our ISO 9001 quality system.

Common questions
- Can you machine this part to my drawing?
- Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
- How are the material and heat treatment decided?
- They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
- What lead time and inspection come with the part?
- Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
- How is the part packed for export?
- Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.
Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
