Gears & PinionsGear shafts

Large Module Gear Shaft

Large-module gear shaft machined to drawing in 42CrMo or 45# steel, with spur or helical teeth, quenching and tempering plus tooth-surface hardening for heavy-duty drives.

Forged steel gear shaft with large helical teeth on a stepped body, machined journals and dark heat-treated surface.

Machining scope for large-module gear shafts

Gear shafts are machined from forged or rolled blanks, with turning, gear cutting and grinding kept in-house. Outside diameter can reach Ø10 000 mm and module up to M60, covering spur, helical, herringbone and internal tooth forms.

Journals, keyways, splines and threads are turned and milled in the same process chain as the teeth, so the gear body and the bearing seats stay on one centre line before final inspection.

Process route and heat treatment

The route runs forging, rough turning, quenching and tempering, gear cutting, tooth-surface hardening and finish machining. Quenching is available up to Ø10 000 mm, and tooth-flank hardness is checked on every batch.

Where a hard tooth profile is required, the teeth are ground after hardening; for moderate loads the shaft is delivered after gear cutting at the precision marked on the drawing.

Inspection and customization

Tooth pitch, runout, hardness and ultrasonic testing are carried out in our own inspection room, and a report follows each shaft. Non-standard modules, stepped journals or integral end flanges are quoted from drawing, with typical lead time within 90 days.

Common questions

Can you machine this part to my drawing?
Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
How are the material and heat treatment decided?
They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
What lead time and inspection come with the part?
Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
How is the part packed for export?
Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.

Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
