Gears & PinionsGear shafts

Integrated Spur Gear Shaft with External Spline Input

A one-piece straight spur gear shaft that combines a pinion gear, stepped bearing journals and an external involute spline input, typically forged from 42CrMo or 20CrMnTi for heavy-duty gear drives.

One-piece spur gear shaft: pinion teeth, stepped body, external spline, and threaded axial hole at the opposite end.

One-piece gear and shaft body

The pinion teeth, stepped shaft body and external spline are produced as one piece, so the gear and shaft do not rely on an assembled joint. The stepped journals provide locating shoulders for bearings, spacers and locking elements; the axial threaded hole at the spline end can be used for axial locking, lifting or fixture mounting.

Gear cutting and heat treatment capability

Gear-form machining covers outside diameters up to Ø10,000 mm and modules up to M60, including straight, helical, herringbone and internal teeth. For this type of part, the spur teeth and spline are cut and the journals are turned to drawing; quenching and tempering plus tooth-surface hardening are available, with a maximum quenching diameter of 10,000 mm.

Heavy-duty running conditions

Straight spur teeth generate no additional axial force, which makes the shaft suitable for low-speed, heavy-load and shock-loaded drives. The design is commonly used in heavy gear reducers, mine hoists, crushers, metallurgical mill drives, cranes and conveying equipment.

The one-piece body avoids a keyed gear-to-shaft joint and keeps the gear concentric with the bearing journals, while the spline input distributes torque over multiple teeth.

Inspection and drawing-based customization

Inspection covers tooth pitch, runout and hardness, with ultrasonic inspection carried out in-house; dimensions and form are checked against the drawing. Before production, module, number of teeth, pressure angle, accuracy grade, spline size, journal diameters, thread and heat-treatment targets are confirmed from the drawing or sample.

Blanks can be forged, cast or rolled-ring according to the drawing and batch size. Common gear materials include 42CrMo and 20CrMnTi; other grades can be quoted when specified. Typical lead time for gear parts is within 90 days, depending on size and heat-treatment requirements.

Common questions

Can you machine this part to my drawing?
Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
How are the material and heat treatment decided?
They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
What lead time and inspection come with the part?
Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
How is the part packed for export?
Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.

Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
