Gears & Pinions

Parallel-Shaft Helical Gear Pair

A matched helical gear pair: an integral gear shaft meshing with a large web-type helical gear. The pair reduces speed and raises torque and suits hardened-face reducers.

Two helical gears: a small integral gear shaft and a large ribbed web gear with lightening holes and a central hub.

Structure and tooth form

The pair consists of a gear shaft with the pinion cut directly on the shaft, and a large helical gear built as a ribbed web that carries the rim and the hub.

The two gears have opposite helix hands and matched helix angles. Overlap contact is greater than with spur teeth, so running stays smooth and quiet under high speed and high torque.

Machining and heat treatment

Teeth are cut first and ground after heat treatment, which leaves hard flanks and an accurate profile.

The shop can cut outside diameters up to Ø10 000 mm and modules up to M60, in spur, helical, herringbone and internal tooth forms, and can harden parts up to Ø10 000 mm across.

Materials, duty and customization

Typical grades are 20CrMnTi, 42CrMo and ZG270-500. Depending on the duty cycle, carburizing and quenching, quenching and tempering, or tooth-surface hardening is used, and blanks can be castings, forgings or rolled rings.

The pair is commonly used in parallel-shaft hardened-face reducers and heavy industrial gearboxes for metallurgy, mining, cranes, wind power and machine tools. Tooth count, helix angle, accuracy grade and hardness are made to drawing, with a typical lead time within 90 days.

Common questions

Can you machine this part to my drawing?
Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
How are the material and heat treatment decided?
They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
What lead time and inspection come with the part?
Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
How is the part packed for export?
Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.

Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
