Single-Groove Heavy-Duty Crane Sheave

Machined sheave body for crane hoisting and reeving systems: an arc-shaped rope groove guides the wire rope while the bearing bore and web holes carry and locate the load.

Circular one-piece sheave body with a machined arc-shaped rope groove around the rim, a large central bearing bore and four bolt holes in the web.

Rope groove machining

The outer rim is turned with a single arc-shaped groove that matches the wire rope diameter confirmed on the drawing. The groove is the working surface: it keeps the rope running centered, limits bending and rubbing, and reduces the risk of the rope jumping out of the groove under load.

Groove profile, groove radius and rim width are machined as one continuous setup so the rope contact surface stays concentric with the bearing bore.

Bearing bore and web structure

The center bore is machined as a bearing fit bore and supports the sheave on the shaft or bearing assembly, keeping rotation free while the load passes through the hub. Bore diameter and tolerance are held to the customer drawing.

Bolt holes drilled evenly in the web serve two purposes: they reduce body weight and rotating inertia, and they provide mounting points for bolts, connecting plates or locking structures that position the sheave axially.

Material and heat treatment

Sheave bodies are normally made from cast steel or alloy structural steel. Normalizing and tempering are applied to balance strength and toughness, so the part withstands rated loads and the impact of frequent starts and stops.

Where the application calls for it, the groove surface can be hardened to improve wear resistance against running wire rope. Material grade, hardness and heat treatment cycle are confirmed against the part drawing before production.

Inspection and customization

Each sheave is checked for groove profile, bore size and fit, web hole positions and rim runout before shipment. Dimensional and runout records can be provided with the delivery.

Sheaves are machined to drawing or sample. Sheave diameter, groove size, rope diameter, bore size, rated load and bearing model need to be confirmed from drawings or on-site measurement before quoting.

Common questions

Can you machine this part to my drawing?
Yes. Every part is quoted from the drawing. Send a PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP or IGES file with the material, quantity and any inspection requirements, and we reply within one working day.
How are the material and heat treatment decided?
They follow your drawing. The specification table shows the range normally used for this part type; the final material and heat treatment are confirmed with the quotation.
What lead time and inspection come with the part?
Lead time is set in the quotation and depends on material, size, quantity and inspection scope. Material verification, in-process checks and final inspection records are archived with the part, and any extra certification is agreed before production.
How is the part packed for export?
Export parts are rust-proofed and packed for the transport method and destination confirmed in the quotation, with lifting points and markings agreed before dispatch.

Every part is quoted from the drawing itself, not from a size band. Send it over and we answer with the process, the lead time and the tolerance we can hold.
